When we review our small ship cruises and land expeditions for the coming year, it’s rare that we find a trip that decreases in price. Surcharges for fuel, increasing port fees, costlier travel arrangements, inflation… it all typically leads to vacations costing more (some much more, some just a bit more) each passing year. So when we stumbled upon two enticing destinations that bucked the trend, we just had to share! In 2013, you can travel to the Aegean Islands and Easter Island for less than what it would cost you this year.

Our 4-day Easter Island Adventure is a land-based program to discover the mystery and culture of the famed island, and 2013 visitors who select the Posada de Mike Rapu hotel are in luck. The rates here have decreased by $645 for next year’s Raa Suite, and $485 for the Varua Room. Accommodations at the Altiplanico and Iorana hotels have gone up about $100.

All cabin categories on Jewels of the Cyclades aboard M/S Galileo to the stunning Aegean Islands are less in 2013, ranging up to $140 less. Port fees go up $15 as of Jan. 1, but that’s not enough to negate the savings.
